OFHS Students Receive UN Service Awards

Oak Forest High School Students Receive UN Service Awards

A total of 40 students from Oak Forest High School are being recognized for their community service as national award earners and as inspirations for other students to get involved in their community, in the 5th Annual National Community Service Awards, aimed to connect student service activity to the United Nations Global Goals.

In this year’s batch of awards, The United Nations Association has added the additional recognition for students working toward a world of Zero Hunger, and Zero Waste. 

Fifty-four percent of Oak Forest volunteers were seniors. A total of 31 recipients received a merit award, which is 20+ hours of service and participation in four activities. Eight received the honor award, which is 40+ hours of service, and eight activities.
Many of these students participated in service clubs and organizations at Oak Forest High School. The service organizations and clubs were: National Honor Society, Rotary-Interact Club.
"One of our goals this school
year was reestablishing a strong sense of purpose and belonging for our students,” said Jane Dempsey, Principal of Oak Forest High School. “These students take a sense of purpose to the next level with the hours spent on so many worthy projects. We are very proud of their contributions to the community and Bengal Nation."
